Colour My World

Year 3 studied incredible images of phenomena under the microscope! From butterfly tongues to salt crystals, from marine organisms to viruses, we marvelled at the strange colours and patterns...

We made initial sketches using fine liner pens, capturing weird and wonderful shapes and textures. Then, we embellished our drawings with kaleidoscope colours using a technique called wax resist. We loved watching the patterns and textures emerge from translucent layers of watercolour paint and ink. Finally, our pieces were joined together into huge magic carpets - celebrating the world of colour around us, and inviting others to celebrate it too…

Colour my world with my dad’s loud giggle when I tell him a good joke! Colour my world with the slow opening of a cherry red rose! Colour my world with the voice of my grandmother greeting me whenever I call her… Colour my world with Jack, picking strawberries in the forest!

Colour my world with the freshly wet grass after the rain, Colour my world with the spices of my mum's biryani, Colour my world with the smell of a train station when the train passes by, Colour my world with powdered sugar on a jam-filled doughnut...

Colour my world with the first bite of a hot bread Colour my world with the smell of pink blossom in spring! Colour my world with my baby sister’s giggles when I tickle her! Colour my world with Bugs Bunny breathing fire, and a dragon eating a carrot!

Colour my world with the rustle of leaves in spring… Colour my world with the gentle song of a bird… Colour my world with my cousin’s whistling while he bounces on the trampoline! Colour my world with the first sip of a fizzy cold tango!

We held a Colour My World competition for avid artists and writers. They created this beautiful scroll using wax resist and special dyes. Their work is ethereal and beautiful!
